Celebrate Negroni Week with River Street Liquor Store

Negroni Week, presented by Imbibe Magazine and Campari, is an annual event where for seven days, more than 12,000 venues (and their patrons) around the world celebrate the renowned gin cocktail, serving up the classic recipe and delicious variations using their own spin. And as if that weren’t enough to get excited about, Negroni Week was started in 2013 to raise money and awareness for charities around the globe. And River Street Liquor Store has everything you need to get started.

To participate, all bars and restaurants have to do is sign up, choose the charity they’d like to support and make a donation. As the week progresses, venues can choose to donate more – often a portion of the proceeds for each Negroni sold. 

A brief history of the Negroni

According to Imbibe Magazine: “One of the world’s most iconic cocktails, the classic Negroni recipe was purportedly invented at Caffè Casoni in Florence, Italy, when Count Camillo Negroni asked for a bolder retelling of the Americano, with gin replacing soda water. With equal parts Campari, gin and sweet vermouth, the ruby-toned cocktail has inspired countless riffs, including the Negroni Sbagliato and the Kingston Negroni, as well as global initiatives like Negroni Week.”

What’s in a Negroni, anyway? 

Equal parts sweet vermouth, gin and Campari, Negronis are a classic cocktail that’s sure to please. Here’s the full recipe from Imbibe:

What you’ll need:

• 1 oz. gin
• 1 oz. Campari
• 1 oz. sweet vermouth
• Orange twist
• Ice
• Mixing glass, bar spoon and strainer
  

From there it’s pretty simple:

Stir the gin, vermouth and Campari in a mixing glass with ice. Then strain the mixture into a chilled cocktail glass (or rocks glass filled with ice) and garnish with the orange twist. That’s it!
